SCT Tuners, how does this work?

So what is this sorcery you speak of??? What does it do? Will this magic box steal my soul......
Well, no.
It allows you to rewrite your factory calibration in your engine controller for more horsepower and torque. Either you can purchase the software and write to it on your own or your preferred tuner will write the calibration for you and email it. SCT opened up a whole new world for the performance industry by allowing end users to modify the factory calibrations on all platforms. Before that, we had Hypertech and Superchips plus Mopar Performance PCM's.  But when stroking the engine, adding cams, heads or power adders such as boost, there were few solutions beyond increasing fuel pressure to account for boost. Now you can run a 2 bar map sensor with 60lb injectors if you are supercharged or turbo'd. So here are some guidelines to remember when purchasing the SCT for your 96-2003 Jeep Ram Dakota:
  • It will lock to your 1 vehicle. You may unlock it 5 times, after that, you have to have SCT tech unlock
  • It can store 10 calibrations you load using SCT UPDATER program for free
  • Yes, you need a USB support laptop or PC. ( Windows/MAC with Parallels)
  • Battery should be fully charged and better a trickle charger on when flashing to the truck
  • You need to send your tuner the the PCM number off the truck (56040123AB for example)
  • Send in all the specs of your mods and octane use you plan on running.
  • In the future the replacement for the X3 SCT will allow more vehicle on 1 handheld for a fee
  • If you have errors, you have to contact SCT Support, not your tuner. Screenshot the error number
Listed below is a normal Dakota 360 5.9 gain at the tires from a dialed in SCT calibration.

Looking to refresh my 5.9 Grand Cherokee Engine with a moderate cam, fresh EQ heads and your Kegger Intake improvements. I am currently stretching my rear wheel base which includes a new fuel tank that will have a 59 psi fuel pump over the 49 psi currently. Will the SCT X3 package you sell cover me. never used a tuner, but understand the basic concepts.

Ken, that is a question best suited for SCT directly.

It's interesting to know that you would be able to have modified factory calibrations on all platforms when there is custom performance tuning. With that in mind, those working in such an industry would be best to work with professionals for the best condition of their equipment. It would ensure that their production and operation would have no issues and delays that can affect the impression of their company.

99 ram 2500 360 V8, I have a factory spec crate motor currently with enginequest heads ported throttle body full free flow exhaust and a cold air intake, the motor I'm having built is going to be 30 of them with high compression Keith Black pistons, Edelbrock RPM aluminum heads, 480 lift with 262 duration cam and a ported and polished intake with volume reduction plates and a ported and polished throttle body on top... Is there a way I could send a PCM to have it programmed for my hypo motor and still keep a p cm in case I ever need to pull it out?

What is the wire called that is USB on one side and you connect that to the laptop. But what is the other side of the wire called?
